DELAWARE FOUNDATION FOR THE VISUAL ARTS
The Delaware Foundation for
the Visual Arts, formally known as the Delaware Foundation for Youth in Art, a
nonprofit organization, was founded in 1990 to develop a support system for aspiring
artists and to encourage the recognition of the importance of art in everyones
lives. |

Many of DFVAs projects are student-oriented. The organization has conducted workshops for high school students, hosted student mixed-media exhibitions, organized painting-on-location opportunities, provided professional artists demonstrations and awarded scholarships to high school seniors pursuing a visual arts career. One of DFVAs most visible undertakings is the annual Excellence in Drawing Student Competition. Open to grades 9-12, the competitions most outstanding entries are included in an annual calendar, which is freely distributed to Delaware high schools and patrons. Establishing the vital link between seasoned artists and aspiring artists is an important part of DFVAs purpose. Annually, DFVA hosts the Greenville Summer Art Show and Sale, which showcases the original work by Delaware-area professional artists. Octobers 3rd Annual Spirit of Art Festival clearly embodies DFVAs total mission. By providing a top-quality juried arts show and technical learning opportunities, the festival pulls together artists, educators, art organizations, students, and the community in a passionate celebration of creativity.
